Back again, albeit breifly...
12:31pm 29/11/2005
Hey guysss!!! Hope everything is going good! I miss you all tons! My life has been quite crazy over here... I've definitely had my share of new experiences, let me tell you. Like turning 20!!! Eek... I'm not a kid anymore. No more doing stupid things. haha. Thanks to Quinetta for remembering my bday, too. Your little email really made my day. Love you sooooo much, girl. xoxoxox.

Anyways there is a point for this post. I just thought I would let you know that I'm going home for Christmas. I was originally going to go to Italy and Spain with some friends but was getting tired of their indecisiveness about where and when they wanted to go. Plus, with everybody getting all ready for Christmas over here... I started to get a bit homesick. So I shall be back home from Dec 17 to Jan 9. Which means... I will have my internet! And I can post all my pictures from here up until that point. So, thats about it.

Take care guys, and talk to you soon!!!

Love,
Monique xox

Salut de la France!!!
02:05pm 22/10/2005
Hello everyone!!! Well, it's been a long time, hasn't it? I miss talking to you all like mad but because of my crappy computer situation over here, it's been hard to even get online at least once a week. Normally when I am online, I'm just answering emails and such. So if you guys still want to keep in touch (and I hope you do), email me at m3medeir@uwaterloo.ca and we can chat a bit. Okay?

Anyways so far everything has been great over here. Sooooo much fun. Only downside is that the French smoke like fiends... and they smoke everywhere. But all that smoking must keep them thin because I swear all they eat is bread, chocolate, and cheese. French guys = not so great. Yet at least. lol. They're all really super skinny and just not particularly attractive. But I have a couple of guys that I've been having a good time with and they are sooooo hot. One is from Italy and the other Columbia.

Um... I think that's about it! Like I said, I will try and post here if I can but it is really difficult as I have to pay 3€/hour at the internet cafe everytime I want to come online. So if you guys want to email and we can talk back and forth that would be a lot easier for me, and I'd still get to see how you all are doing as I really miss you guys! Okay, I got to run but take care of yourselves and be good!

Love,
Monique xox

PS: Portugal qualified for the World Cup, baby. We're taking it home this year no doubt.

Quick message before I run off to work...
03:22pm 16/08/2005
... I'm going to be doing a friends cut over the next few days because I have all these people on my friends list who either a) don't read/comment on my journal and/or b) whose journals I don't read or comment on. This'll prob bring my friends list down to like... 5. lol. But it's all good... those are the only people I'd want on there anyways. So if you don't want to be cut, comment here. Aight... gotta run. I'll check out all your journals over the next couple of days since I'm offfff. :) xox.

Ugh...

music: "Why Worry" - Sylver
... I'm so sick. I've had a cold for the past few days now. Go figure... as soon as I have some time off of work, I get sick. My mom just told me "És tan branca" (You're so white/pale). Gee... thanks. I love to know that I look like crap. lol.

I just read that Ronaldo is going to be signing a new deal with Man U where he'd be making £50,000 a week. That's like $150,000 CDN! PER WEEK! Holy money, man. lol. But he deserves it... he's worked hard to get to where he is. I'm proud of him. Not too many 20 year olds I know make that much money... I certainly don't. haha.

Not because you have to, but because you WANT to! Things you enjoy, even when no one around you wants to go out and play. What lowers your stress/blood pressure/anxiety level? Make a list, post it to your journal and then tag 5 friends and ask them to post it to theirs!

(Because Jazmin made me. :P But I'm not tagging anybody because I'm lazy. Do it if you'd like.)

1. Read Cosmopolitan magazine. <3 I buy it every month.

2. Blast music, while singing and dancing around like a lunatic... WHEN NOBODY IS AROUND. ;)

3. Go the gym and do the elliptical machine for an hour or so.

4. Shop! Or window-shop... depending on how much money I have. lol.

5. Just spend time relaxing with my family and friends.

Does anybody have an iPod? If you do, do you like it? Is it worth the money? My CD player broke, so I need to buy something. I'm debating whether to get an iPod or a Samsung MP3 player. I like the iPod cause they have so much more space... but you have to charge them through your computer which will be a prob for me in France since I won't have a computer. Can you buy something that you can like plug in to charge them? The MP3 player just takes batteries, which would be much more convenient for me.

Anyways, take care, loves.

... finally reality TV got something right:

TOM WON SURVIVOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm beyond thrilled. I <3 that man... he's such a doll. Totally and completely deserved to win the million.

Also, the next Survivor is in Guatemala! It looks freakin' awesome... unfortunately, I'll be in France when it airs. And I HIGHLY doubt they'll show it en France. *cries*

Okay, I'm done. <333333333333333333 you, TOM!!! Also... <3333333333 Ian and Steph. And Janu. And Bobby Jon. Awww... this season owned all.

(Note: Yes, I'm sad... I get way too involved with my TV shows. lol.)

... I have my last two exams. Latin American history tonight, and Spanish tomorrow morning. Then I am FREE!!! Well, except for work. But that doesn't involve reading or anything unfun like that. lol.

Anyways, I'll be moving home tomorrow sometime after my exam. One thing that sucks about going to uni in a different city... the constant moving. At least when I go to France, it won't be so bad. I think I only get 150 lbs. of luggage or something. So I have to limit myself... which shall be hard, since I am the biggest overpacker ever! I'm one of those people who thinks I need absolutely everything... you know, so you're always prepared. lol.

Anyways, take care, guys! Have a superb weekend. :)

Last thing for a while, I swear...
12:27am 19/04/2005
... I just finished reading this book for one of my classes (I normally don't read much unless I have to. lol). It's called "El Señor Presidente" by Miguel Angel Asturias. You can get it translated in English, and it's just called "The President". But if any of you enjoy reading and especially are interested in learning about some aspect of South/Central America, I highly recommend this book. The whole story is about the corruptions that go on in that part of the world, and it's really quite fascinating... yet sad at the same time. Kind of hard to believe that stuff like that actually does exist when we in North America have so many freedoms... but the story is based on truth. Anyways, it's become my favourite book ever. So definitely check it out if you have the chance. :)

... these past couple days have been very blah. I literally have done nothing notable at all. Yesterday, I was supposed to go to Toronto with my Spanish class to a Peruvian restaurant, but it got canceled because of... wait, get this: A SNOWSTORM!!! IN APRIL!!! AFTER WE'VE BEEN HAVING 15°C WEATHER!!! Ahhh... just one of the many reasons I love Canada oh so much.

Anyways, tomorrow should be better... although, I'll pretty much be hanging around campus all day. At 12, I have an oral exam for my French phonetics courses... which I will bomb because I can't do the French "R". My prof is always like... "Monique, your R sounds like a Spanish R." XD Anyways, after that, I'm meeting up with Jazmine at 1:30 to do lunch, meeting up with Steph at 4:00 to study, and 5:30 I have my meeting to sort out flights.

Speaking of flights and France-related stuff, Jazmine emailed some of the girls over there right now to find out about classes. And get this... next year, I'll only have 10 hours of class a week! Monday to Thursday! And the earliest they start at is 11! Mon Dieu... I ♥ France already. Except Bea told me some scary stories about French guys... so now I'm a bit frightened. lol.

Anyways, I think that is about all. Seeing as how I didn't waste a bunch of money on Peruvian food, I think I deserve to go buy myself some MAC Lipglass glosses. *thumbs up* Take care, my loves!

My poor head...
05:05pm 02/04/2005

... is filled with so much information. I'm going to start at the beginning because I haven't posted anything about my France meetings yet.

Needless to say, there was much learned during those 4 hours on Thursday about courses, residence, etc. But the thing that is frustrating the heck out of me is the flight! Our exchange coordinator (whom I <3 because she is an uber cool lady) quoted us for the group flight... which everybody generally takes, unless they want to go out on there own. It's going to be roughly $1200 for Toronto-Paris-Nantes open return (meaning we can come back to Canada anytime within a year), and includes us getting picked-up from the airport and brought to our residence. She wants us to tell her this week if we're going with this option. I know nothing about flights, but my mom says that its a pretty good deal.

Well since then, some people have been talking to travel agents and trying to find cheaper options, and it's just been utter chaos (I got home from work yesterday, and literally had 20 new emails in my inbox about flights). And they have been able to find better deals... but they're only Toronto-Paris and they want to take a train to Nantes. Now, I hardly doubt that I want to get on a train (having to speak totally in French) with my 150 lbs. of luggage after a 7 hour or so flight, and then have to find my way to residence from the train station. After having an MSN chat today with 5 of the 9 other people going, we've decided to have a get-together on Tuesday to sort everything out and decide what we're doing. So, hopefully it'll all get solved because with exams, having to pick courses for France, trying to find out more about residences, finding a summer job, and battling around with the Portuguese Embassy in Ottawa and Consulate in Toronto, I have A LOT to deal with. :(

On top of everything, I still can't figure out how to put my LJ banner up. :*(

Okay, I'm going to go try and de-stress myself. Take care, guys.

Love,
Monique xox

So not pleased...
11:07pm 29/03/2005
... okay, I <3 Rob, but he was so not being cool on the Amazing Race tonight. First, he didn't give money to Meredith and Gretchen. Not that he had to, but it might have been smart for him to at least have given them something. What if he comes to a point where he needs money? But the real kicker was when the two brothers got into that car accident, and EVERY team that drove by them stopped to see if they were okay... except for Rob & Amber. I mean, I know they're in a race and it's a game... but the guys were in a freakin' CAR ACCIDENT with a person HURT! The humanly thing to do would be to at least pull over and see if they needed anything. Ugh. So not cool.

... it is soooooooooooooooooooooo nice out today! Like 15°C and SUNNY! I am such a happy girl right now, you have no idea. No more winter! Yay! :) Now watch us have a blizzard tomorrow. lol.

So I have 5 days left of school. That makes me happy, although the next few days are gonna be busy! It seems like I have a never-ending list of stuff to do. Ugh. Oh well...

I just got sent an email about one of my meetings on Thursday. That thing is gonna be huge... basically it is a mandatory meeting for all students that are going on an exchange/work term in another country in the summer or fall. So, you think that since my school has about 30,000 students... that means this thing is gonna be big. Anyways, there was an intinerary in the email about what the meeting will cover. There was this link in it to a site about what women should wear in different countries so they don't get "unwanted" attention. Apparently in France, they like never wear jeans or running shoes. And if I do that when I'm there, there's gonna be a bunch of "drageurs" following me around and grabbing my ass because they like to hit on foreigners. Joy. lol.

Looks like I'm gonna need a crash course on how to not be polite and tell people to leave me alone... 'cause I have a hard time doing that. Last time I was in Portugal, I had these two guys that followed me EVERYWHERE when I was alone. They were harmless (at least, that's what I told myself)... but it was just a bit much. I'd walk to my grandmother's house from the house we were staying at... it's literally a 5 minute walk. But they'd be in a cafe and see me walk by, and they'd follow me the rest of the way there. I didn't want to be mean, though, and tell them to go away. It came to the point where my dad had to go out and threaten them. And my dad is scary-looking... nobody messes with him. haha. So yeah... my point is, I must learn to be mean and tell people off. lol. I'm usually not the kind of person that takes shit from people, but I have a hard time being mean... especially when the people involved are from a different country with different cultural norms, you know?

Okay, enough rambling. Must head off to work! Ciao loves.

Did you all know that I love Rob & Amber? Because I really, really, really do! They are kicking so much butt on The Amazing Race!!! I just wish all the other teams would stop being so mean to them. :(

Anybody care to tell me who The Scorpions are? Everybody on the 'Net seems to be talking about them... my friend in Portugal says they're one of his favourite bands. Are they some European band that we haven't heard of over here... or am I just totally out of the loop? lol.

ANTM is on tomorrow (well, technically today). I really love that show... it has become one of my favourites. I'm so pulling for Christina and Lluvy now. Brittany, Naima, and Tiffany are pretty cool too.

Mademoiselle Bea, j'espère que ton voyage à la France et à l'Espagne soit chouette. Soy muy envidiosa. :)

... is the coolest mall EVER!!! I was in shopping heaven, man... didn't know which store to go in first. I am definitely going there before I head off to France to score some hot clothes/shoes/stuff to decorate my res. I actually did start a bit of pre-France shopping. I bought 2 purses... a Jennifer Lopez one and a Nine West one, some earrings from this jewellery store, and the coolest shirt EVER (which I will have to post a picture of myself wearing one day because I love it so much). I so would have bought more things... but I was limited with my funds as I have to pay off my credit card bill. :x

Guess who is going to Florida this summer? Yes, that's right... ME!!! My mom felt bad that we couldn't go to Portugal, so she's taking my brothers, my aunt, and I to Florida for 10 days in July. I am so excited.

The next couple of weeks are looking pretty crappy... I have a major assignment due and a test each week. BUT... next Thursday, I have 4 hours worth of France meetings!!! I can't wait for that day... I need to know things! Although, I'm sure 2 hours will be dedicated to "This is how to conduct yourselves in an appropiate manner so you reflect well on the university" lectures. But I don't care!!! Vive la France!

And that is all. Take care, belas. <--- I just recently learned that "bela" is a Portuguese word, too. I've always called my girl friends "bellas"... a habit picked up from my Italian friends. ;)

... so FC Porto lost yesterday and is now out of the Champions League. I'm sooooo upset. They really deserved to win... they completely outplayed Internazionale (if I spelled that wrong, bite me. I'm not Italian). The only reason Inter won was because of Adriano. I'm not even gonna get started on him because yeah... I don't really like the guy. :x

Anyways, I have to go make a nice 35 minute drive over to Cambridge now. Stupid FedEx tried to deliver my Fendi sunglasses this morning when I was in class... even though they said they'd deliver them at 6pm. So, now I have to go pick them up... or they get returned to the sender. Ugh.

Take care, queridas!

Quick note...

music: "Sick Cycle Carousel" - Lifehouse
... I have to run off to class soon, but I just wanted to mention something. In my Latin American civilization class, we're watching this movie called "Romero". It's based on true events that occurred in El Salvador, and I HIGHLY recommend that if you ever have the chance to see this movie, that you do. No movie has ever quite effected me/opened my eyes the way this one has. People that live in free countries like Canada and the US seem to think they have such hard lives... but we don't know the meaning of "hard". We don't live in countries where you get shot for speaking out against human rights violations. We don't live in countries where you can one day find out that your 5 year-old brother was kidnapped and murdered by guerilla militants trying to make a political statement. I, for one, feel so privledged to live in Canada and have the opportunities that I do. Never again will I complain that "life can be so unfair". I truly do not know the meaning of an unfair life, but millions of people around the world do. They're lives are constantly marred with corruption, a lack of total liberty, inexplicable murders... and yet, here we are... complaining about our families, money problems, how depressed we are, etc. I implore all of you to really try and look at the bigger picture, and instead of constantly being so down on your life... see the many blessings that you do have.

And that's my spiel for the day. Sorry if it came across as kind of preachy, but it's something that I'm feeling particularly passionate about.

Monique xox

My friends asked me if I wanted to go to the club tonight... but I couldn't. I think I have like... $13 in my bank account. :x

Speaking of money and all things related to it, I just applied for a bunch of summer jobs. Here's hoping I get one.

Anyways, since a bunch of new reality shows have started-up recently... here are my picks as to whom I want to win each one:

America's Next Top Model - Brita (she's so cute), Brittany (she may start to annoy me... but right now, I like her craziness), Christina (love her confidence).

The Amazing Race - Rob & Amber (well, duh), Lynn & Alex (super hilarious guys).

Survivor - Ian (he's so adorable), Tom (love his accent), Stephanie (such a kick-ass girl).

Okay, that's it! Take care, bellas!

... bored out of my mind. Prof was talking something about the Russian Revolution... I stopped paying attention because I had read a bunch of stuff on it last night. So, anyways... the point of the story is... I was thinking that I want to get a tattoo. I've always wanted one... but now I'm seriously contemplating getting one soon. I've already started to research parlours in the area, and I'm gonna ask my two friends (who have tattoos) some questions... find out where they went, how much they cost, etc. etc.

If I get it done, I'm gonna put it on my lower back. At first I thought I'd get a black Playboy bunny. Decided against that because my parents probably wouldn't like that... they'd be like "Are you trying to advertise yourself as a slut?" And let's not even get into what my grandparents or family in Portugal would think. I'd be disowned. lol. So, I've decided on something... if the tattoo people can do it, that is.

I wouldn't want the Lusomania thing, of course. lol. But I love the circular shield thing in the background. If I got it done, it'd be a way to show off my heritage wherever I go. Plus, it would most likely be parent/conservative Portuguese family-friendly. lol. After all, I'm showing off my patriotism. So, yeah. We shall see what happens. Ideally, I'd like to talk to my friends... tell my mom (so she is prepared for the shock), and then get it done within a few weeks.

OK, sorry for the randomness. Just wanted to post that. Now, I gotta go get ready for the club. Yay! Ciao chicas.
